If eventually elected as the country’s Prime Minister under Pheu Thai party, the leader of the opposition in Thailand has promised to airdrop crypto worth $300 per citizen.

According to a report by local media, citizens from the age of 16 and above will be the beneficiaries if he wins the coming election in May.

The candidate Srettha Thavisin backed this move by saying that it is quite essential to bring debt relief to the citizen of the country, it is no surprise that he decided to make this move after emerging as Thailand’s Prime Minister, this is because, in the region, the people of the country has one of the highest household debts.

“Our country has been economically bruised over the last eight years, with less income and more expenses for the people,” Thavisin said in a report by Bloomberg. “The current government has been feeding IV drips with small money handouts. That’s not the right way and doesn’t stimulate the appropriate and right economic growth,” he added.

The $300 is however equivalent to 10,000 baht, the country’s local currency.

Furthermore, the potential stimulus relief promised by Thavisin has spurred criticism among the opposition and critics. Questions are being asked about where the money will come from. 

Also, the Thai baht stablecoin may be used to airdrop the crypto, questions have as well been asked on how it would be possible, this is because the apex bank of the country has declared the stablecoin illegal in Thailand.
